Decided to challenge myself with putting a character on a horse for some reason, then I scoped out some inspiration. I found some great artwork by some great artist when checking out behind the scenes of "How To Train Your Dragon" and I've been humbly watching "Road To Eldorado" the past few days. So I guess in my mind this is some weird combination of the two. This is one of my early attempts at caricature with an animal,and of course working on entertainment value in my drawings, I also decided to play around with some flat gray values, good exercise.

Here's an original sketch i did a while back, and the more refined version i just worked on recently i'd like to toss some color on these and see what happens.still workin on getting across characteristics and such...(left to right- Officer watumacallit,shortstack,captain muttonchops, his parrot, eduardo,badass, and huskybeardface...yep that seems about right.

LUCIERNAGA (Firefly)

This post is in recognition of the talent,drive,and overall enthusiam that has gone into a great friend and dare I say "colleague" of mines thesis no need for names check out this link http://lecheproject.blogspot.com/and you will get all the introduction you'll ever need!(CHECK SIDE BAR FIREFLY) A while back I posted some initial sketches and early concepts for the project, suffice to say that this thesis has grown into something memorable, with a bunch of crew members who got on board knowing full well that this project was a special one. All the time and effort that has been put into the film by him and his team shows through the deceptive effortlessness that comes across on screen. I have had the privilege of being a apart of that initial experience and feel more than honored to share a tiny portion of the spotlight that is "Firefly." My job today is spreading the word and sharing with a broader audience something I feel you should also have the privilege of being apart of. Deadlines are fast approaching for many end of year projects and screenings and this Thesis is no exception!. So go bask in the concepts and awesome animation they've got going along with all the blogs and links attached to the site, up top is the official poster that was released by the Firefly team. Rough Key Poses

My early assignment for my 2D -3D aniamtion class. Key poses utilizing a currently exisiting character model. in this case the rhino from Disney's 1973 animated feature Robin Hood.The goal of the assignment is to have the character react to something that he/she hears behind a wall or door and have a different attitude in the final pose in contrast to the original pose,did these using adobe flash.

The Rocket MEN

Todays sketch is homage to walking around my the college the other night and finally realized how infinitely cool the custodial staff is here ( we've had a few talks). plus they get to wear these enormous jet packs that make the entire computer lab your working in smell good! they have teleportation and flying capabilities too. Epic! so this was floating around in my head and as always had to get it down on paper. this is for the staff that never sleeps..just like the rest of us. its been a long day,..so goodnight all, till next time.

The Curious Prince (first tunaround)

Good-day all just thought I'd post these concepts that pertain to the "CP" post from earlier. As always another key element in deciding a look for your character, are the "turnarounds". I think I'm getting there but he still needs more work. so here are the gesture lines and then color.Overall I tweaked some elements here and there and droped in some more or less solid color. the discussions I've been having revolved around the notion that the environments the prince would find himself in would be riddled with color in contrast to his overall darker, and more bland tones. so feel free to take a look. These in addition to the previous post are some early ideas for the little story i have fizzling in my head for my character design class. The semi-naive quick witted prince, the girl who is the quintessential street smart thief. And the man shrouded in mystery. These are all the first passes on the characters including some of the sketch book thumbnails I worked on in order to play with minor design elements and personality. I plan to sketch out the entire line up and see what results I get. stay tuned.
